Just a little and extremely late announcement: "Dreaming While Awake" took part (albeit somewhat later than the rest) in The Last Unicorn Art Show. I just so happened to be in Chicago at the time of the show, and brought the piece with me -- Jeremy graciously allowed for the late entry and within seconds had it up with the others. I also met Peter S. Beagle, who is extremely kind and down-to-earth. There were some beautiful and outrageous pieces of work there ... I hope Chicagoans and fellow visitors like myself enjoyed the show!

So, after being torn away from the webbie world for a while thanks to a killer combination of work, school and volunteer positions, I take a minute to check out my DeviantArt account and see 2,982 messages awaiting my perusal. First thought: jeez, I haven't been away that long. Second thought: SPAM. And then, after inspecting a few of the messages, I discover that "Dreaming While Awake" became the Daily Deviation on May 27, 2009. Frightening! Astonishing! And totally faboo!

In other news, I've been accepted into a graduate program, after the completion of which I will [hopefully, and after much pain o' the good sort] acquire an MSc. Those with foresight may at this point see some sad news in the near future ... and they will be spot on.

Art-wise, I've done nothing! All I do is work all day every day, gathering funds for further endeavours in post-secondary education! I might be tempted to draw on the train to and from work if it didn't jostle and jerk around so much, and if there weren't so many creepers stealing creepy glances over my shoulder. So, for now, I resort to reading.

Speaking of which, and in ending, the title of this journal is a stolen quote from a character being quoted by another character in Horacio Castellanos Moya's "Senselessness", a short but cutting novel I just finished enjoying immensely.

Until next time!

Edit: Normally I view, if not leave a comment on the gallery of everyone who comments on or favourites my own gallery or any of my pieces, but there's unfortunately way too many of you to go through. So I hope it's not too heartless to say simply here: Thank you all!

In answer to some questions: no, I don't have the time to participate in competitions (sadly); there was/is a remake of The Last Unicorn in progress; I did see "Legend" with the ever fabulous Tim Curry, but I don't recall how much I liked it; sending a print to Beagle is a charming idea, which I may be inclined to do; I have read the sequel "Two Hearts", and enjoyed it (psst ... it can be read online for free here); the "16-bit"-esque colouring I tend towards probably has something to do with the fact that I like the creative challenge of working with a limited palette (and also probably due to recent habits accrued after creating sprite art for mobile and hand-held game systems); I haven't read "The Baby Unicorn" but may go look it up; yes, I use layers when painting digitally; I will consider uploading a background-sized picture and make a print available; yes, I love Harry Potter and sort of wish I was on the Eastern Coast so I could check out the exhibit in Chicago, but alas; someone mentioned that the animators threw away the cels after production, but I don't think that's entirely true, given that you can/were able to purchase production cels (look up "The Last Unicorn cels"); no, I've never seen the movie in Dutch (???); I LOVE the soundtrack, even Mia Farrow's horrendous rendition of "Now That I'm A Woman"; the tree on the right is not the magically endowed tree of Schmendrick's nightmares (hehe); the shape behind the Unicorn is Amalthea, her human specter; and finally: yes, anyone is welcome to add me to their DevWatch.
